Awardees of the MDSI Best Paper of the Year Award

The MDSI congratulates the awardees of the MDSI Best Paper of the Year Award 2021!

From left to right: Prof. Dr. Gerhard Kramer (TUM Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation), Stephan Thaler (winner of the MDSI Best Paper of the Year Award), Georgios Kaissis & Alexander Ziller (honorable mention), Mohammad Lotfollahi (runner-up) and Prof. Dr. Stephan Günnemann (MDSI Executive Director).

Three papers were selected for first, second and third place out of several scientific publications, from researchers related to MDSI, that were anonymously reviewed and voted by core members of the MDSI.

Awardees:

  1. Winner: The Best Paper of the Year Award goes to the first author Stephan Thaler for the paper:  Learning neural network potentials from experimental data via Differentiable Trajectory Reweighting, published in Nature Communications (2021).
  2. Runner-up goes to first author Mohammad Lotfollahi for the paper: Mapping single-cell data to reference atlases by transfer learning, published in Nature Biotechnology (2021).
  3. The honorable mention goes to Georgios Kaissis and Alexander Ziller for the paper: End-to-end privacy preserving deep learning on multi-institutional medical imaging, published in Nature Machine Intelligence (2021).

Awarding Ceremony

The awardees were announced during the 2nd MDSI General Assembly (October 5, 2022) by Prof. Dr. Gerhard Kramer (TUM Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation) and Prof. Dr. Stephan Günnemann (MDSI Executive Director).
