Jose completed a bachelor of  science in civil engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico and a master of science in Architectural Engineering from DTU in Denmark. He has experience in industry as a design engineer and as a consultant.

His current research interests include the intersection of artificial intelligence and engineering as an approach to find solutions for challenges the built environment faces.
