About Augmented Industries GmbH
Augmented Industries is an AI startup that transforms how technicians perform industrial operations. Their platform FLOW TOOL enables technicians to capture knowledge, create trainings, and troubleshoot complex equipment more effectively. Recognised by Forbes 30 Under 30, the female-led startup addresses the manufacturing skills gap by equipping operators to work safely and effectively through scalable qualification and step-by-step troubleshooting guidance simplified with AI. Founded by Dr. Elisa Roth and Dr. Mirco Roth and having raised €4.5 million in pre-seed funding, the Munich-based company was built on the founder’s research at the University of Cambridge and the World Economic Forum, and is deeply embedded into UnternehmerTUM.
Project Description
In high-stakes environments - such as precision manufacturing and offshore wind turbine troubleshooting - precision, safety, and cost efficiency are critical. Traditional training data in machine learning, however, often fail in these settings to reflect the complexity of real-world scenarios. Here, Human-in-the-Loop systems can play a vital role. By integrating expert oversight into AI workflows, these systems ensure reliability, transparency, and explainability. This industrial research and AI development project explores how reinforcement learning from human feedback can be applied to industrial workflows to improve model accuracy and bridge knowledge gaps through expert intervention.
As part of this project, you will:
1. Finetune a custom reward model using supervised learning on human preference data,
2. Access real-world industrial data from a global sustainable energy partner, and
3. Test your prototype integrating human-in-the-loop feedback into an AI workflow.
Requirements
• Proficiency in python and a solid foundation in machine learning and reinforcement learning, or: proficiency in product development with a solid foundation in UI/UX, frontend and backend
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive attitude and drive for excellence
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
