MDSI Kickstarter support provides a kickoff to collaboration between two PIs by promoting their first joint projects, which are currently in an installment / starting phase. This format comes with funding for (up to) two doctoral or postdoctoral researchers for (up to) six months. Projects from the previous MDSI Seed Funds call may apply for an extension.

MDSI Focus Topics represent key areas that MDSI would like to highlight. They consist of a dynamically set up group of five or more senior TUM scientists that intend to collaborate on a specific research topic in data science. MDSI Focus Topics are supplied with 150,000€ that can be used for both personnel as well as consumables.
