The TUM Heilbronn Data Science Center (HDSC) is an interdisciplinary research center where management, data science, and artificial intelligence come together to generate scientifically excellent research with real-world impact. Jointly anchored in TUM’s School of Computation, Information and Technology and TUM’s School of Management, the HDSC aims to make data science a trustworthy foundation for better decisions in business, public institutions, and society.

Its research is built on two pillars: developing advanced data science methods and applying them to important real-world challenges. The first focuses on innovations in AI, optimization, and empirical analysis that expand the frontiers of data-driven research. The second applies these methods across domains such as manufacturing, healthcare, marketing, and public policy.

Twelve professors, six from each school, form the Center’s scientific core. Their methodological research is complemented by application-oriented projects that deliver actionable insights, responsible innovation, and meaningful impact.

HDSC and MDSI

As part of TUM’s broader data science ecosystem, the HDSC works closely with the MDSI to strengthen collaboration across disciplines and locations. This partnership connects foundational advances in data science and AI with impactful applications, creating synergies that enhance both scientific excellence and societal relevance. In particular, HDSC and MDSI collaborate in the HDSC Tandem Projects that connect researchers from both institutions.
