Mouse Door Opener Day 2026: From the big bang to the future – Exploring with AI
Event, Top |
AI in medicine – can you tell what you’re looking at?
Do you know what your lungs look like in an X-ray image? Can you tell a knee from a shoulder if all you saw was an MRI scan? At this station, you can test your knowledge of the human body in a medical image quiz and discover how doctors and AI work together to analyze medical images. The big question is: who can identify more, you or the AI? Experience how computers learn to interpret X-rays, MRI scans, and other medical images to support physicians in making diagnoses and helping keep us healthy in the future.
Discovering the building blocks of life
Bioinformatics is all about using computers to solve mysteries in the living world, such as how genes work or why people become ill. Think of it as a giant puzzle made up of information about animals, plants, and humans that scientists piece together with the help of computers. At Mouse Door Opener Day, we will show you how DNA and proteins, the most important and complex molecules of life, are built. Then you can become a molecular architect yourself by creating your own molecular models, which you will even be able to eat afterward.
Searching for the energy materials of the future
How do researchers discover and design new materials for solar cells and batteries? At this station, you will learn interactively how scientists use models to investigate material properties and predict the behavior of atoms and electrons in the search for sustainable materials of the future. Have you ever wondered what an electron is and what it does? Or what quantum effects and the uncertainty principle are all about? Try it out yourself with our “electron-in-a-box” simulation.
Understanding neural networks through play
Many AI systems are based on so-called neural networks. But what exactly are they? At this station, you will explore the building blocks of these systems, data, neurons, layers, and connections, and discover through hands-on activities what makes a neural network successful at learning. You will even become part of a network yourself and experience how computers make decisions.
Control a video game with your eyes
Have you ever wondered how a computer can tell where you are looking? At this station, you can control a video game using only your eyes while learning how eye-tracking technology works. Discover how your eyes move, what information can be gathered from those movements, and how this technology can support people in their everyday lives. You’ll also have the opportunity to take a closer look at different mobile eye-tracking prototypes and learn how eye tracking could become more contact-free, flexible, and seamlessly integrated into everyday devices in the future.
Become an AI trainer yourself!
Object recognition is one of the best-known applications of artificial intelligence today. But before an AI can tell apples, pears, bananas, and plums apart, it first needs training. At this station, you can become an AI teacher and show the system what different objects look like. If you like, you can even train the program to recognize your own face and then test whether the AI can correctly identify family members, friends, or other visitors.
