MDSI PhD Workshop & Seminar

Workshop "Presenting Across Disciplines" &
Networking Seminar "Data Science / Machine Learning / AI"

Communicating research across disciplinary boundaries has grown important to discover new approaches and gain an understanding of the complex interplays that govern not only scientific discourses, but increasingly everyday life, too. Whether you wish to explain your research to your best friend who is doing their PhD in financial mathematics or connect with someone studying engineering to realize a joint project, the ability to communicate makes or breaks these efforts. This MDSI module looks to fill this gap.

Workshop: Presenting Across Disciplines

The kick-off workshop teaches PhD students how to communicate their research effectively across disciplinary boundaries. In the professional training, they learn which aspects play a special role in interdisciplinary presentations and how to identify points of contact.

Networking Seminar: Data Science / Machine Learning / AI

The goal of the event is interdisciplinary networking and fostering interdisciplinary work of PhD students on common tasks from the field of Data Science. In addition to two presentations by PhD students on the state of their work, there will be input from a professional trainer and plenty of time for inspiring discussions in a relaxed atmosphere.

Additional Benefits

MDSI aims to bring together researchers from different disciplines to lay the foundation for future collaborations and consequently seeks to support interdisciplinary research projects. For doctoral researchers who discovered a potential joint research project during the seminar and now look to further explore the topic in a workshop, MDSI offers funding and organizational support.

The workshop and seminar form a mandatory part of MDSI's Data Science qualification program.
